My Take-
Before I even started collecting watches I came across this one on Amazon.com. Wow I thought, a great looking solar-powered analog watch! I impulse bought it. Little did I know I was now a watch collector. I was delighted when it came. The leather strap was far better than I anticipated and the dial was such classic retro field watch design. I didn’t care it didn’t have a sapphire crystal or screw down crown. I didn’t at the time even know those were a thing. I will say now, after owning the watch for some months, that the crystal could be clearer, it seems a bit foggy or something: perhaps it’s that the dial is not black, but a very dark grey. This is done because the solar cells are underneath the dial, and so some light must be able to make it through, which would not be possible if it were opaque black.
I continue to enjoy this watch quite a bit. Timex has a long history as an American watchmaker, and I’m proud to own it. Yes it has a brass case. Yes it has a mineral glass crystal. Yes, it’s a tad large. But I don’t care, at this price it’s a keeper.
